Day by Day Journey
Day 1 | Arrival in Cusco
Private transfer to accommodations. A gentle walk through Qorikancha—an introduction to the city’s heritage and a reminder that the best birding starts with patience. The altitude asks you to slow down; we encourage you to listen.
Day 2 | Sacred Valley Birding — High-Altitude Specialists
Full day in the Sacred Valley. Visit the Santuario de Colibríes Ensifera ensifera and the Sacred Garden—home to the Sword-billed Hummingbird, Bearded Mountaineer, and Giant Hummingbird . Your ornithologist guide knows where to find them. The day revolves around habitat, timing, and the quiet thrill of spotting something extraordinary. Among the species you might encounter: the endemic Chestnut-breasted Mountain-Finch .
Day 3 | Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu — Cloud Forest Transition
Transfer to Ollantaytambo, then board the train to Aguas Calientes. The landscape changes with every mile. Birding in the hotel gardens—search for the endemic Masked Fruiteater, found only in this region . Afternoon in the cloud forest transition zone, where the birds change as the altitude does. The Torrent Duck, the White-capped Dipper—species that belong to rushing water and misty air.
Day 4 | Machu Picchu & Cloud Forest Birding
Morning at Machu Picchu—with a private guide who understands that the sanctuary’s avian inhabitants are as remarkable as its stones. Andean Cock-of-the-Rock. Torrent Duck. White-capped Dipper. Afternoon birding in the cloud forest gardens.

Day 5 | Return to Cusco
Morning birding in the hotel gardens—one last chance to spot the Masked Fruiteater or other cloud forest specialties. Then the train, the road, and the journey home to Cusco. The afternoon is at leisure.
Day 6 | Cusco to the Amazon — Lowland Birding Begins
A short flight to Puerto Maldonado. Then the river, the boat, the lodge. Afternoon birding in the reserve—the first taste of what the lowlands have to offer. Macaws, toucans, tanagers—the colors are different here, brighter, more vivid.
Day 7 | Amazon Birding — Canopy Walkway
The Canopy Walkway: observing canopy-dwelling species from a perspective few ever experience . Toucans, macaws, tanagers—the forest canopy is a world unto itself. Afternoon on the river, where different species await.
Day 8 | Amazon Birding — Oxbow Lake
Early morning on Lake Sandoval. Hoatzin. Amazon Kingfisher. Giant River Otters—not birds, but worth the journey. Afternoon birding along forest trails—the understory’s quieter treasures.
Day 9 | Amazon Birding — Clay Lick (Optional)
An early excursion to the Chuncho Clay Lick—witness hundreds of macaws and parrots gathering at dawn . The sight of Scarlet and Red-and-green Macaws against the clay wall is one of the Amazon’s great spectacles. Subject to seasonal conditions, wildlife activity never guaranteed—but when it happens, it’s unforgettable.
Day 10 | Departure
Return by boat to Puerto Maldonado. Flight to Lima. The birds stay with you—their colors, their calls, their wildness.
